WINDOWS 10
For the release of Windows 10 we felt it was necessary to give the Bing apps (now MSN apps) a major facelift. In addition to refreshing the apps on Windows 10 and Windows Phone 10, we expanded the app family into iOS and Android. As Principal Design Lead, I designed the information architecture, and led the team working on UX framework and common controls.
Sports
With the redesign of the apps we wanted to use the immersive look and feel from the Windows 8 apps and incorporate our learnings we got from the MSN homepage project. These included clearer navigation to other sections of the app and richer structured data modules providing sport statistics.

Health & Fitness
We also valued the consistency we created in the MSN homepages and leveraged the system into the MSN Windows 10 apps. The top of the page was similar in structure throughout the app suite but the unique colors, content, typography and data made each app feel different.

Finance
With Windows 10 we also had the opportunity to refine our visual style. The application used line art icons and lighter typography. Colors were primarily used as accents and we kept background to neutral colors or white.

Food & Drink
One of the challenges in the Windows 8 apps was that the navigation was hidden to the user. The discoverability issue prevented many users from enjoying the full depth of the app. With the redesign, we used standard navigation patterns (i.e. hamburger) popular across other platforms.

Travel
We made sure the great impactful imagery was always available on the Travel app but also added entry points to the top tasks the user could perform such as: checking flight status, viewing arrival and departures, and searching for flights and hotels.

News
One major improvement we made with the MSN News app was to focus the app on user customized topics. Like Flipboard and Google News, we sought to deliver a customized news feed including stories that were relevant to the user and also displayed the top stories to keep the reader in the know.

Weather
With the MSN Weather app, we showcased another layer of polish we added to the app suite. On app load, the background and several pieces of the UI had a motion effect which created depth, gave hints on interactivity, and increased user delight.
